Battery Failure
WARNING: Battery Failure May Result in Hull loss to unmanned aircraft, or significant damage to persons, properties or critical infrastructure (MAJOR)

INDICATIONS

  1. Aircraft unable to maintain altitude

  2. GCS has been disconnected from aircraft

POSSIBLE CAUSES

  1. Battery damage or puncture

  2. Hardware failure

FAILSAFE BEHAVIOR

In the event of a total power failure or battery failure of the aircraft, the flight termination system would activate via parameters set to identify the situation. The triggering conditions are a result of excessive bank angles (pitch and/or roll), and excessive sink rate. The flight termination system contains capacitors which can power the parachute even without external power. In the event of complete loss of propulsion, the flight termination system will activate.

PROCEDURE

BATTERY FAILURE ANNOUNCE

The RPIC is to announce over voice comms “Battery Failure” once emergency conditions are identified using the indications information above.

Record last known location — NOTE B.A.T.H.S

The RPIC shall note the last known battery percentage, altitude, current time, heading, and speed of the aircraft reported in the Mission Console of the RPIC Control Station. This shall help with the recovery of the aircraft.

Aircraft — SEARCH, RECOVER

The RPIC and/or available crew member(s) will search and recover the aircraft.
