Context

Cloud Deployment Manager vs Kubernetes.

Decision

Kubernetes. DroneUp has some exotic requirements - e.g.: have its applications create deployments dynamically (drone simulators) - but nothing that can’t be expressed with Kubernetes. By now DroneUp has Kubernetes experience and has invested sufficiently in it (helm charts integrated with CI).

Consequences

Alternatives Considered

Cloud-native VMs, but they need Mesos, Zookeeper and all sorts of now outdated furniture for orchestration and discovery. Kubernetes clearly supersedes this.
