Context / TriggerJulia is 30 minutes into an activated infrastructure inspection flight. A wildfire breaks out 3 miles from her operational area. The county authority activates a blanket denial zone that overlaps with Julia’s authorized volume. Her normal-priority authorization conflicts with the incoming high-priority emergency services operations.

Narrative

Julia’s tablet emits an audible alert and the screen displays a high-priority preemption notification (UERQ-SYS-1468). The notification states: “Conflict: Emergency services operation activated in your authorized volume. Action required: expedite landing. Comply by 2:55 PM.” The map view highlights the conflicting emergency zone in red overlapping her authorized volume.

Because Julia’s authorization is in Activated state, the FAS does not automatically revoke it (UERQ-SYS-1477: preemption prohibited after activation). Instead, the conflict notification requests voluntary compliance. Julia assesses her position: she is 500 meters from the boundary of the emergency zone and her inspection is not yet complete.

Julia decides to expedite landing. She initiates return-to-home and the aircraft lands at the launch site within 4 minutes. Julia taps “End Flight” in the app. The authorization transitions to Ended. She acknowledges the preemption notification.

Julia notes that the notification was clear, actionable, and arrived within 30 seconds of the emergency zone activation (UERQ-SYS-1474). She did not need to interpret error codes or search for information. The system told her what happened, what to do, and by when.

Traceability
Linked End GoalsReceive immediate, unambiguous notification if authorization is preempted during flight.
Linked CapabilitiesPreemption Conflict Notification (UERQ-SYS-1468), Preemption Prohibited After Activation (UERQ-SYS-1477), Preemption Notification Sent (UERQ-SYS-1474), Priority Flight Preemption (UERQ-SYS-1470).
Safety RelevanceCritical: Delayed or unclear notification could result in Julia’s aircraft operating in conflict with aerial firefighting operations. The notification design directly affects safety response time.
